Miners Foundry Gets Some Help from Its Friendsyubanetlogo

Mar. 28, 2009 - Castle Window Covers, a Stockton-based business, has fallen for Nevada City. Recently they donated and installed three window covers at the Miners Foundry annex, an on-going project to improve the temperature comfort-level while conserving energy and money. These window covers provide a nearly invisible barrier on the windows, which insulate the old historic windows at the Foundry.

Said Kenn Carpenter, Castle Window Covers owner, "One of our goals is to improve older and historic buildings by insulating their original windows with magnetic acrylic window covers without replacing the existing windows. This preserves the historic look and feel of these important buildings while insulating them from unwanted heat, cold,ultra-violet light and street noise."

Carpenter first discovered Nevada City while working with Mike Good and Joan Girdler on their award-winning home on East Broad Street in Nevada City. Ultimately they discovered the Miners Foundry. There they installed 16 window covers in the Stone Hall & Foyer at their non-profit rate. They have donated new acrylic covers for all the display cases in the Foyer and now three window covers in the Foundry Annex.john jeanene and jake lenz

Said owner Kenn Carpenter, "Nevada City and its Miners Foundry are the perfect place to showcase our work and fine products. Tremendous care and diligence have gone into this city's comprehensive historic preservation efforts. We are proud to make a contribution and to be a part of it."

The Foundry, in the meantime has established a Window Sponsorship Program. Twelve windows have been upgraded by Castle Window Covers in the Stone Hall. The Foundry, for $500 per window, is offering everyone a chance to sponsor this project.

Said Executive Director Gretchen Bond, "In the short time that we have made this opportunity available six of the twelve upgraded windows in the Stone Hall have been sponsored. Each sponsor receives a plaque honoring themselves, a friend or family member, or their business. The plaque is then permanently displayed at the base of each sponsored window. We are taking double advantage of this opportunity to raise money for the Miners Foundry while at the same time, improving our facility for the benefit of our great community. If you are interested in helping the Foundry though this program or in any other way, please give me a ring at 265-5040."
