MINERS FOUNDRY INSTALLS EFFICIENT WINDOW COVERINGS
Special to The Union
The Miners Foundry on Spring Street in Nevada City kicked off its Forging for the Future campaign on with the installation of 16 clear, insulating window coverings in the Stone Hall and the Foyer.
Said board president Gladys McWood Birdsong, "We are very pleased to be launching this campaign which brings many benefits to our facility. These highly inconspicuous interior covers will make the building much more comfortable in the winter for our guests, reduce our energy usage at the Foundry, and enhance our ability to increase rental activity and needed revenue. Like our city government, it is also a significant goal and part of our master plan to move in directions that reduce our carbon footprint."
McWood Birdsong continues, "When the building was purchased by David Osborn and Charles Woods in 1972 the windows were a haphazard mixture of boarded up openings. The windows we enjoy today they had custom-made to fit the window areas. Osborn/Woods modeled them after other windows in Nevada City appropriate to the same time period. We paid particular attention to preserving this historic look so important to the Miners Foundry."
"The Forging for the Future campaign has important goals beyond this upgrade to the physical plant. It will help fund the programs we sponsor, aid us in general maintenance of the building, keep us in touch with our donors and supporters and at the same time, allow us to make new friends," said McWood Birdsong.
The Forging for the Future campaign includes an opportunity to sponsor a window upgrade. For $500, the window sponsor's family or business name will be engraved on a plaque beneath one of the 16 windows." McWood Birdsong stated, "In these tough economic times, donations by Friends of the Foundry are more important than ever."
"While we recognize the challenging nature of these economic times, we strongly believe that having your name permanently displayed in a building of this caliber is a true bargain." said Gladys Mcwood Birdsong. "To join us in this campaign please call our Executive Director, Gretchen Bond, at 265-5040 or visit our website at www.minersfoundry.org.
"There are many other ways to help us sustain the Miners Foundry as a vital part of our community, including becoming a member. We thank once again all those that have been so generous over the years and those that will be pitching in as we move forward," concluded McWood Birdsong.
